			“Zìyóu” is a term that loosely translates to “free” in Tienese. Originally the nation was known as “Great Yan”, a term that comes from the surname of the founding dynasty, with the term meaning “beautiful, gorgeous”. After the Golden Revolution, President Wen Long Liu believed that the Yannese culture was “counter-revolutionary” and wished to create a new culture, which was done by force via the Golden New Dawn and the Great Reformation, two campaigns that were initiated shortly after the end of the Golden Revolution. With the eradication of the Yannese culture, Wen Long Liu saw fit to create a new name for the nation, and decided on “Zìyóu”, to better represent the new nation he built.

			Great Yan was created in the late 14th century by an infamous warlord, Yan Shi Lau. Yan Shi Lau was formerly a soldier in the army of another warlord, Zan Jin Tian, who was killed alongside a majority of his army in the Siege of Liali. After the brutal siege, Yan Shi Lau organized the remnant forces of Zan Jin Tian under his command, declaring himself to be a divine enforcer of the Heavens, and that the gods have given him a sacred quest to pacify the region and bring it under his control. Yan Shi Lau began to expand his army, and eventually began to expand his domain. Eventually, he took vengeance on the warlord who caused the Siege of Liali, Kai Da Wu, by wiping out his army and executing him.

			Eventually however, Yan Shi Lau began to slow down the conquests of Tien-Chi, and then declared that the gods gave him another quest, this time to fortify his domain and solidify his control. During this time he declared himself the Heavenly Emperor of Great Yan, and, because he did not have any direct descendants, he created the High Council of Elders, composed of the eight most loyal members of his army, to appoint a male member of his dynasty to the throne.

			Yan Shi Lau would eventually die shortly after the conquest of the Kai Dynasty. He was succeeded by a distant cousin, Yan Jiahao Hu, who continued the conquests of neighboring dynasties and tribes.

			Kairanese-Yannese War (1934-1949)
			During 1934, the Kairanese Empire declared war on Great Yan in an attempt to fully subjugate Tien-Chi. After a gruesome war, the Kairanese Empire collapsed after a firebombing of their capital by Golden Impirial Utopia. The war resulted in thousands of lives lost, and multiple war crimes were committed by both sides.

			Zìyóu is officially governed by the ideology of Neo-Dawnism, and the Eight Principles for a Utopian Socialist Society created by Wen Long Liu. Neo-Dawnism advocates for a highly centralized totalitarian one party state, run by socialist and technocratic principles. There is a single legal political party, the People’s League of the New Dawn, which is highly entwined within the state. The leader of the League, the General Secretary, is elected by the National Congress of the People’s League, which is composed of party representatives from across the country. The General Secretary has de facto complete authority over the state. The Premier acts as the official leader of the state administration, and is officially elected by popular vote to serve for a period of five years, with there being no term limits. Before the position of Premier, the position of President was used instead, before being dissolved after the death of Wen Long Liu. Wen Long Liu is officially still the “Eternal President” of the People’s State.
			The unicameral legislature of Zìyóu is the People’s Revolutionary Assembly, whose members are elected every five years from a list of members of the People’s Vanguard of the New Dawn. The People’s Revolutionary Assembly drafts laws, which are then sent to the Premier and his Cabinet for approval. The highest court in Zìyóu is the Central Court, whose members are appointed by the People’s Revolutionary Assembly.

			The People’s League of the New Dawn is, when the National Congress is not convened, led by the Central Committee, which is in turn headed by the Presidum. The Central Committee is composed of the Presidum, the Political Bureau, the Secretariat, and the Auditing Bureau. The Central Committee is elected by the Congress every five years.
