The Roskayan Republic, also known simply as Roskaya is a unitary parliamentary republic under a stratocratic oligarchy located in Western Noskyavia. It is bordered in the north by The Xaviet Empire, to the east by Vandburg, and to the south by Mayakava.

Etymology

“Roskaya” comes from the name of a Zoloti tribe known as “the Rosk”, and can translate roughly to “land of the Rosk”. The origin of the name of the Rosk tribe is unknown, with several theories behind it suggesting it comes from the ancient Zoloti term “rosa”, translating to the tiny water droplets that form on grass. The reason the Rosk tribe was named after this term is unknown.

History

Roskaya was created by a Zoloti tribe known as the Rosk, after they fled from the infamous conquerer known as Tnngrnöküuruqmkhaghane. Settling in the region that is now the Dozesk Capital District and Roskgorod Oblast, the Rosk tribe disintegrated into a collective of raider-tribes known as the Razboyniki.

The Razboyniki would unify under Varlam Seryov, better known as “Varlam the Owlish”, who proclaimed himself Grand Prince of the Rosk. His son and successor, Klyment Seryov (also known as “Klyment the Peacemaker”) would further centralized control and proclaim himself Korol (King) of Roskaya.

Further Korols would expand both the size of Roskaya and their own power, at the expense of the aristocratic Boyars. Korol Vladimir III would convert Roskaya to the Axonite faith, and become known as “Vladimir the Messenger”. Further centralization would occur under Korol Pavel II, who would both sideline the Boyars and the traditional clergy of Axonity.

Korol Pavel II would eventually fully centralize both political and religious control around himself, declaring himself both Imperator of a new Roskayan Empire and Patriarch of a new Axonite Church. Pavel II would posthumously be given the title “the Bogatyr”, or “the Hero”.

More expansion would follow under other Imperators. However, this would result in conflict with neighboring states, such as with The Xaviet Empire. These conflicts would escalate in 1901 with the beginning of the Great War, a brutal war that lasted for 50 years. The Xaviet Empire would eventually nuke the Roskayan Empire six times, resulting in the Roskayan Imperial Military attempting a coup against Imperator Vladimir IX.

This coup would fail, and a communist insurgency would also begin in the southeastern regions of the Empire, beginning the Roskayan Civil War. This conflict would last from the end of the Grear War in 1951 to 1971, when the Roskayan Union State formally surrendered to the Roskayan National Republic, which would reform itself into the Roskayan Republic.

In 1975, Marshal Matvei Ivanov, the first Vozhd of Roskaya, would die, and be replaced by Army General Vasily Markov. Markov would be infamous for being far more authoritarian and nationalistic than his predecessor, embracing certain policies of the nascent Roskayan ultranationalist movement.

Markov would die in 2017, and be replaced by Colonel General Nikodim Solokov, who rules to this day. A conservative pragmatist, Solokov has began to bring Roskaya out of isolation. This would be best showcased by Roskaya’s joining of the League of Prosperous Nations, first as an observer state in 2024 before fully joining the League a few months later.
